WhatsApp Wedding Invitation Messages You Can Copy (Australia)

Ready-to-send WhatsApp messages for save the dates, invitations, RSVP reminders and thank-yous, plus personal RSVP links without a messy group chat.

By Caitlin & Nicolas · · 3 min read

Plenty of Australian couples now send their invitations by WhatsApp, especially when half the family lives overseas. It's fast and free, and people actually read it. The trick is to keep the message short and give every household its own RSVP link, so replies don't disappear into a group chat.

What a good WhatsApp invitation includes

  1. Who it's from. Guests may not have your number saved, so start with your names.
  2. The date and place. One line is enough; the details live on your website.
  3. One link. Ideally each household's personal RSVP link, so you can see who has opened it and who has replied.
  4. When to reply by. A date, not "soon".

Keep it under about five lines. Long messages get skimmed, and a link at the bottom of a wall of text gets missed.

Save the date messages

Send these 6–12 months out, earlier for guests flying in (our guide on when to send invitations has the full timeline).

Hi Sarah and Tom! Save the date: Priya & Daniel are getting married on Saturday 6 November 2027 in Sydney. A proper invitation will follow. Details here: [link]

It's official! We're getting married on 20 March 2027 at the Hunter Valley. Pop it in the calendar, invitation to come. Love, Chloe & Lachlan

Invitation messages

Warm and simple:

Hi Aunty Meena, you're invited! Priya & Daniel would love you to celebrate with us on 6 November 2027 in Sydney. Your invitation and RSVP (please reply by 1 September): [link]

A bit more formal, for older relatives:

Dear Mr and Mrs Nguyen, together with our families, Ruby and Oliver warmly invite you to our wedding on Saturday 25 September 2027 in the Yarra Valley. Please find your invitation and RSVP here: [link]

Relaxed, for friends:

We're getting married!! Byron Bay, Saturday 20 March 2027. Long lunch, dancing, the works. RSVP here by 1 Feb: [link]

RSVP reminder messages

Send these only to the people who haven't replied. Nobody likes being reminded about something they've already done.

Hi Jess, just a friendly reminder to RSVP for our wedding by 1 February. It only takes a minute: [link] x

Hey legend, we're locking in numbers with the caterer this week. Can you let us know if you're coming? [link]

Thank-you messages

Thank you so much for celebrating with us on Saturday. Having you there meant the world. Photos are up on our website: [link] Love, Ella & Cooper

It's tempting to drop one message into the big family group and be done with it. The catch: you can't tell who has seen it, replies come back as chat messages you have to copy into a spreadsheet, and someone always replies "all of us!" without saying who "us" is.

A better pattern:

  • Send each household its own message with its personal RSVP link. Their answers go straight into your guest list, per person and per event.
  • Use the group chat for the heads-up ("Invitations are going out today, check your WhatsApp!") or share your wedding website, where anyone can find their invitation by searching their name. For formal wording to adapt, see our wedding invitation wording examples.

On Online Wedding Invitation, the Send page has a WhatsApp button next to every household. Tap it and WhatsApp opens on your phone or computer with that household's message and link already typed. You press send, so it comes from you, and it's marked as sent in your guest list.

Phone numbers: get the format right

WhatsApp needs the full international number. For Australian mobiles that means dropping the leading 0 and adding 61: 0412 345 678 becomes +61 412 345 678. For relatives overseas, use their country code (+44 for the UK, +91 for India, +64 for New Zealand). If you enter numbers the local way, we add the Australian code for you.

Not everyone uses WhatsApp

Some guests will only ever read a text or an email. Mix it up: WhatsApp for the family overseas, email for colleagues, a text for Grandpa. Every one of them gets the same personal RSVP link, so the replies all end up in one place.

Replies from those links land in one list, per guest and per event: here's how our online wedding RSVP works.
